Exactly this; I don't care how much more "correct" home.arpa is, I'll keep using my .lan thank you very much. They really need to just go ahead and officially reserve a nice shorthand TLD for local networks. .lan is already frequently used in internal networks and wouldn't have much appeal as a general-purpose TLD anyway.
